PROGRAM COMPONENTS

  • This immersive program offers an in-depth understanding of Analytical (Jungian) Psychology for individuals without clinical training, as well as for clinicians seeking to integrate Jungian work into their clinical practice.

Individuals at all levels of familiarity with this material are welcome to join.

Programming is rarely elementary, by design. Learning happens progressively and through embodied, personalized understanding, rather than merely intellectualized concepts.

Most lectures will be based on readings, which will be shared in advance.

Some themes for definition and exploration may include:

    • Concepts: Individuation; shadow; persona; ego-Self axis; projection; libido; collective unconscious; personal unconscious; transference + countertransference; anima + animus and an updated awareness of psychological gender / the inner feminine and the inner masculine for all people; understanding of LGBTQ+ perspectives.

    • Methods: Dreamwork; active imagination; alchemical psychology; the use of divination and synchronicity in clinical practice.

    • Personal application: Money; intimacy; sex; boundaries; addictions; creative life; family; parenting; and relationships.

  • Each month, we’ll delve into a specific story together—or a segment of a larger, ongoing narrative.

Storytelling is a profound expression of the unconscious, nature, and human culture. Fairy tales and myths provide entry points into the archetypal layers of the psyche, enhancing our understanding of our history and the language of dreams.

Esteemed guests will be woven into this monthly ritual, often invited to select the myth they most want to share with our community.

  • We will have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of experts, authors, and practitioners in areas of mythology, dreamwork, Jungian psychology, and more.

We are very excited about what has already been confirmed and look forward to sharing more information on this soon.

  • In addition to our scheduled events, the structure of our programming encourages students to initiate peer-led small groups and events on topics such as:

    • Dreams

    • The Tarot and divination

    • The I Ching

    • Writing-with-myth

    • Men’s work

    • Incorporating queer identity into Jungian theory

You may choose to initiate something for classmates to join, or choose from other offerings.

In-person gatherings are also possible, whether for locals in a specific region or to meet up when traveling through a new town.

  • Each participant in the clinical track will have the opportunity to present and consult on at least two cases each year, while learning within a small group how to enhance clinical work through a Jungian frame.

The specific timing of these case presentations will be determined once small groups are formed.

Some specific topics for clinical sessions may also include:

    • The clinical relationship from a Jungian (as opposed to Freudian or psychoanalytic) perspective. Presence, attunement, and creative expression.

    • Incorporating Western medical psychological diagnosis into a Jungian, non-pathological frame.

    • Holding a safe container, boundaries, money + payment, scheduling, and cancellations.

Discussions between group members will be facilitated via an entirely private online platform. Each clinical group will have its own dedicated space for confidential sharing.

Further one-on-one consultation will be available with Satya at a significant discount off her standard consultation fee throughout the length of the training.

Salome supports your heart and mind through a unique academic and symbolic immersion into the study of Jungian psychology, dreams, and myth.

YOUR PRIMARY GUIDE

Satya Doyle Byock, MA, LPC
Psychotherapist, Author, Founder

Satya Doyle Byock has been a psychotherapist in private practice since 2011, and now maintains a very limited practice to focus on teaching, writing, and running The Salome Institute. She founded The Salome Institute in 2016, just before a moment of significant change in the United States and around the world. Since then, Salome has hosted hundreds of events online (and in person, before 2020). She loves curating readings, topics, and teachers for students who are both beginners and those experienced in the field.

Satya holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. She has since studied with many teachers from across the spectrum of Jungian psychology, both as a student and as a client.

Shortly after completing graduate school, Satya worked for The Philemon Foundation, which exists to publish Jung’s archives, including The Red Book. She supported the opening of the Red Book exhibit in Zurich and coordinated with the editors and scholars of various works. In 2020, she co-hosted free online gatherings and created a 30-episode podcast on Jung’s Red Book.

Satya is the author of Quarterlife: The Search for Self in Early Adulthood, published by Random House in 2022. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Oprah Daily, The New York Post, Literary Hub, and on on NPR’s Morning Edition & Weekend Edition, as well as the BBC and many podcasts, including Apple News in Conversation, Goop, Pulling the Thread, BBC Woman’s Hour, and The Joseph Campbell Foundation Podcast.

You can follow her writing and join her monthly gatherings via her bestselling Substack newsletter Self & Society.

There stood a leaf-bearing tree, but without fruit (my tree of life, I thought), whose leaves had been transformed by the effects of the frost into sweet grapes full of healing juices. I plucked the grapes and gave them to a large, waiting crowd.
